CAMPANA AIMS FOR MORE PROGRESS AT RALLYE MONT-BLANC MORZINE
Corsican rally star Pierre Campana is set to continue his adaptation to the MINI John Cooper Works WRC car at this weekend’s Rallye Mont-Blanc Morzine, part of the French Rally Championship.
Campana, who made a highly respectable World Rally Championship debut for the Drive-Pro team at Rallye Deutschland two weeks ago, is using Mont Blanc as a timely opportunity to acquire more experience behind the wheel of the MINI with his co-driver Sabrina de Castelli, as he gears up for a second WRC event at Rallye de France Alsace at the end of September/beginning of October.
Pierre will face fresh challenges at the Mont Blanc rally, which will see him contest the 12 stage rally with different specification Michelin tyres to the ones used at Rallye Deutschland a fortnight ago. Nonetheless, Pierre hopes to use the experience of that high profile event and steep learning curve to develop his driving style with the MINI yet further.
Quick Q+A with Pierre Campana
Pierre, what do you expect to achieve from this weekend’s Rallye Mont Blanc Morzine?
“I’m really looking forward to participating in Rallye Mont Blanc. Any opportunity I can get to drive the MINI John Cooper Works WRC car in competitive rallies will only help to accelerate this steep and exciting learning curve. Following my first WRC event with the car, with the Drive-Pro team and the Prodrive engineers in Germany two weeks ago, I am looking forward to understanding more about this competitive car in a different environment and with different conditions. We will have new parameters, including the Michelin tyres which are of a different spec for the French Championship, but with the team’s support, Sabrina and I hope to come away with a trouble-free and solid performance.”
How was your experience in Germany?
“It was a busy period after the announcement by the FFSA that I would be taking part in two WRC events with Drive-Pro and as part of the FFSA’s French Rally Team for 2011. Thankfully, we were able to get started very quickly by taking part in the Richard Burns Memorial Rally and it was incredible to get our first competitive rally off to a winning start. Moving to Germany was, of course, a much greater challenge but one which I relished. I learned a lot from the rally and we were careful to take things stage by stage, learning all the time. We posted some competitive stage times over the three days as well, which was very encouraging. The experience gave me a greater appreciation for the strong competition in WRC events, but also re-enforced my belief that I am ready to compete at that level.”
