PIERRE RAGUES SET FOR PENULTIMATE ROUND OF WEC SEASON IN CHINA
French endurance racer Pierre Ragues will take part in the penultimate round of the 2015 FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC), the 6 Hours of Shanghai, this weekend, with a podium result as his key objective.
Ragues will once again join his colleagues Oliver Webb and Chris Cumming in the #43 Morgan Evo Sard as they look to repeat the podium potential they showed at the last round at Fuji Speedway.
The Chinese round of this year’s WEC will represent the seventh out of eight races in 2015, and will build up to the season finale at Bahrain later in November. Pierre and Team SARD Morand have shown their ability to fight at the front of the LMP2 category this season, with a podium in the 6 Hours of Spa Francorchamps the highlight of the year so far.
For Pierre, the 5.451km long Shanghai International Circuit will be a familiar race venue as he contested the first WEC event at the 16-corner track back in 2012 in LMP2. He will look to get quickly back up to speed around the unique circuit when free practice gets underway on Friday.
His Dunlop-equipped car has proven to be capable of competitive pace in a wide range of conditions and circuit types so far this season, and he’ll have his sights firmly on the top three.
Pierre will again derive support from his partners GroupAuto and Sparco, while the team continues to be title sponsored by Franck Muller.
Pierre commented: “I have fond memories of the Shanghai International Circuit from when I raced there a few years ago. The result might not have been what we wanted but the circuit was nice to drive, and very challenging. This year’s event will be a new challenge as, together with the team, we look to fight hard for a podium finish. It will be good to join Oliver and Chris again, as we aim to extend our strong run of form, and hopefully challenge for the top three positions. Fuji represented the fourth top-five result of the season for Team SARD Morand, so we’ve proven to be among the quickest and most consistent in class. In China, we hope to translate that into a memorable result, so we can head to the season finale in Bahrain in a positive state of mind. Thanks, as always, to my personal partners GroupAuto and Sparco, as well as to Franck Muller for their continued support for the team. We hope to repay their faith in our abilities.”
