PIERRE CAMPANA ENDS INCREDIBLE SEASON WITH STYLISH STAGE WIN ON FINAL DAY OF RALLYE DU VAR Photo NewsPierre Campana has ended an incredible 2011 season today with a fine fourth place in Rallye du Var but a sensational stage win this morning really epitomised Campana’s season as he beat WRC stars Jari-Matti Latvala and Ott Tanak by a tantalising 0.3 seconds.

Rallye du Var has been something of a mini-WRC event this weekend with a heightened level of competition for all participants. Pierre Campana has drawn upon his combined experiences with the Drive-Pro team and the MINI John Cooper Works WRC car in recent months which have seen the potent combination take three rally wins in the six events contested since the summer.

Pierre was triumphant in his first outing with the MINI in the Richard Burns Memorial and has added victories in Rallye Mont Blanc-Morzine and Rallye Cévennes, in addition to stand-out performances in two WRC events in Germany and France-Alsace.

Today’s fourth place in Rallye du Var ensures that Pierre ends 2011 with an enviable 100% reliability record which perfectly showcases his increased maturity and competency at the wheel of competitive machinery on the international rally stage. Pierre has also held the honour of representing the FFSA by leading their Rally Team France, supporting Pierre’s status as a real star in the making.

The final day of Rallye du Var today saw Pierre on the cusp of adding another podium to his expanding portfolio of results but a tough 11th stage, a repeat of yesterday’s Vidauban stage, lost Pierre too much ground and enabled his closest challenger to leapfrog him into third place after the concluding stage, Collobrières. Nonetheless, the combined experience and results from an outstanding year, as well as the support from Drive-Pro, give Pierre a solid foundation heading into 2012.

Pierre Campana said:
“I have had great fun during this weekend’s Rallye du Var and it has been very enjoyable to take part in what has been a mini WRC battle with Latvala and Tanak. Today got off to a great start and I was able to clinch the stage win at La Garde Freinet, which was the highlight of the weekend for me. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough to secure the podium but we missed out by just 7.5 seconds and it has still been a positive way to end the season. We have maintained a 100% reliability rate this year, which is something I am very proud of. Together with Drive-Pro, we have taken three rally wins out of the six events we’ve taken part in – quite a nice success rate – and I think most importantly I have demonstrated my credentials as a WRC rally driver. I have also been incredibly proud to represent the FFSA this year and to lead their Rally Team France. To be chosen by the FFSA for such a prestigious honour means a lot to me, especially following in the footsteps of such great names. I have enjoyed every moment of my time at the wheel of the MINI John Cooper Works WRC car and I hope that I have done the car’s performance justice together with Sabrina. We have been fighting in all events with leading WRC stars, and competing against Latvala in Rallye du Var this weekend is the perfect example of that. It’s been a fantastic year for me and I hope that 2012 will bring even more success.”
