FRANCK MAILLEUX REVVED UP AND READY FOR 2012 WITH DUBAI 24 HOURS Photo NewsFrench racing driver Franck Mailleux gets his 2012 season off to a roaring start this weekend as he joins Nissan for the Dubai 24 Hours which gets underway with opening free practice today.

2011 Intercontinental Le Mans Cup champion with Signatech-Nissan, Franck will line up alongside other Nissan champions from last year, with the all-champion team racing Nissan’s brand new GT3 car, the Nissan GT-R Nismo GT3.

Joining Franck at the wheel of the new car in the A6 class will be German Michael Krumm and Britons Tim Kimber-Smith and Alex Buncombe, all aiming for success in the first endurance race of 2012.

Dubbed the ‘Champions Car’ the GT3-specification Nissan GT-R celebrates the successes of 2011 while continuing the new car’s intensive test and development programme.

This year will mark the seventh running of the Dubai 24 Hour at the Dubai Autodrome, having developed from its inaugural event in January 2006 into a recognized and celebrated endurance race, alongside classics such as Le Mans, Nürburgring, Daytona and Spa. With a field of around 80 cars and teams and drivers coming from 30 countries with renowned manufacturers such as Nissan, the event will be real challenge for drivers and machinery and will get the New Year off to a competitive start.

The 5.39km-long circuit at the Dubai Autodrome is one of the most modern in the world and one of the most challenging from a driving perspective with a combination of high-speed straights and technical corners. It will be Franck’s first visit to the circuit but with a proven background in quickly finding a strong rhythm at new venues, he will be a strong asset to Nissan’s squad this weekend.

Franck Mailleux said:
“We are already raring to go in Dubai for what promises to be a fantastic 24 hour event at the Dubai Autodrome. I can hardly believe we are in 2012 already but I am honoured to be joining Nissan at this event and to have the chance to drive the new Nissan GT-R Nismo GT3. It is great to be involved in such a competitive event with a manufacturer like Nissan and racing alongside Michael, Tim and Alex, who are fellow Nissan champions from last season; we are all focussed on delivering a strong performance to get 2012 off to an equally successful start. I have never raced at the Dubai Autodrome before so I am looking forward to practice, getting a feel for the new GT3-spec Nissan GT-R and finding a good rhythm. Thanks to the support of Nissan, I was part of a championship winning team in 2011, and I will do all I can to repay their faith in me with a positive result this weekend.”
