PIERRE RAGUES EXPECTS CHANGE IN FORTUNE AT SILVERSTONE 6 HOURS
French racer Pierre Ragues is looking to put a disappointing first half of the Intercontinental Le Mans Cup season behind him as OAK Racing targets a strong finish in this weekend’s Autosport 6 Hours of Silverstone.
It has been a tough season for OAK Racing so far with mechanical issues forcing their withdrawal from the Sebring 12 Hours, Le Mans 24 Hours and Imola 6 Hours events and preventing the team from capitalising on the outright pace of their car. In addition, the team were forced out of the Spa event earlier in the year following a qualifying crash for Matthieu Lahaye.
Lahaye has been out of action since that crash but returns to the OAK Racing squad for this weekend’s Silverstone race to join Pierre and Guillaume Moreau as they search for a result that is representative of the team’s performance potential.
Silverstone will offer a competitive field of entries with the ILMC cars and Le Mans Series cars combining to race together on the one year anniversary of the ILMC series being established. A total of 11 cars will compete in LMP1 but Pierre Ragues and OAK Racing have been working hard over the summer period to be in the best shape possible.
The team has carried out a total of four days of testing since Imola with a two-day test at the Bugatti Circuit in July and a further two days at the Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona just two weeks ago. Pierre was at the wheel on each of the four days and derived satisfaction from the reliability of the car, as well as the set-up and performance evaluation work that was conducted. Pierre has also continued with his karting in the summer break to ensure his fitness and racing levels are in peak condition ahead of Silverstone.
Pierre Ragues said: “I am looking forward to our trip to the UK for the 6 Hours of Silverstone, as it will give us the chance to put into practice all that we have learned in testing over the summer. We have had a difficult first half of the year but we are confident that Silverstone will mark a change in our fortunes for the better. The two tests we carried out at Bugatti and in Barcelona delivered good results and we were able to work on improving key areas of our OAK-Pescarolo car. The team has worked tirelessly over the summer so we are as well prepared as we can be for the weekend ahead. The most important thing for us this weekend will be reaching the chequered flag. I am also pleased that Matthieu is fully recovered and is able to return to racing this weekend; it’s good to have him back. As we begin the final three ILMC races of the season, I’d like to say thanks to my personal sponsor Group Auto Union for their continued support and I hope we can celebrate a good result on Sunday afternoon.”
