KARTING HELPS PIERRE RAGUES KEEP RACE CRAFT FRESH DURING SUMMER BREAK Photo NewsPierre Ragues has been keeping his race craft fully up to speed during the summer break by continuing his occasional participation in the GPO Karting Championship. Pierre is a keen participant in karting and often cites the pastime as a big help when it comes to preparing for an endurance race due to the close competition and required concentration.

Last weekend, Pierre joined 50 other competitors in the Laval rounds of this year’s championship, making up rounds 7 and 8 of the series. The previous kart event took place three months ago, so Pierre used the Laval event as a way to get back into the racing groove in a competitive environment.

Pierre posted top five times in Friday testing but was not completely satisfied with the balance of his chassis on Saturday, so had to settle for the eighth best time in the first timed session. He was able to battle to fifth place in the pre-final, but in the final he was overtaken by a competitor early on and was unable to regain the lost position, ultimately taking the chequered flag in sixth place.

Sunday saw a similar result, although some wet weather hampered Pierre’s performance. He was one of the first to take the flag in improving conditions which saw him down in ninth place for the pre-final. He was able to make up three places in the pre-final itself to finish in sixth place.

Some important set-up changes gave Pierre hope for the final and he was able to retain his sixth place. Results aside, it is all good practice for Pierre as he resumes testing with the OAK Racing Le Mans squad this week ahead of the Intercontinental Le Mans Cup series resuming at Silverstone in September.

Pierre said:
“I always enjoy taking part in these karting events as it keeps me on my toes with some very close racing and competition. It was a fun weekend in Laval and I was pleased with our results, even if I was not totally content with the balance of the chassis over the two days of racing. I was in the top five for practice on Friday but was not able to get back into the top five in Saturday or Sunday’s races. We also had some rain on Sunday which affected my performance in the timed session and that had a knock-on effect into the pre-final and final. I am in the top 12 of the championship despite missing an event, so it is not too bad. My focus now moves back to ILMC and the test we have with OAK Racing this week.”
