LE MANS SUNDAY MORNING UPDATE: FRANCK MAILLEUX AND SIGNATECH-NISSAN BATTLE BACK TO PODIUM CONTENTION IN LMP2 Photo NewsLe Mans, 08:30

Franck Mailleux and the Signatech-Nissan team have continued their determined fight-back overnight to return to an LMP2 podium position as the Le Mans 24 Hours enters the final six hours.

Franck had already undertaken two separate runs earlier in the race with a competitive triple-stint from the start followed by a difficult run under the safety car around midnight, but he returned to the cockpit of the Signatech-Nissan Oreca 03 at 6.20am this morning.

Taking over from Soheil Ayari who had carried out a strong five stint run overnight, Franck resumed in tenth position overall on the classification and second in the LMP2 class. His planned triple stint was curtailed after he needed to pit for a new set of tyres after flat-spotting one of his front tyres before the safety car neutralised the field following an on-track collision between two GT cars.

Franck then experienced some problems with the power steering so he opted to pit earlier than planned to allow the team to fix the issue before handing over, as planned, to Lucas Ordonez. The team performed quickly and efficiently to change the power steering canister in just eight minutes, with Ordonez returning to the race in tenth place and still second in LMP2.

Franck Mailleux:
“After a solid five stint run overnight, I took over from Soheil just after 6am. We have been able to continue our recovery well following the puncture that cost us so dearly after just ten laps of the race. We are now running in the top ten overall and second in LMP2, which is where we want to be. Obviously there is still plenty of racing still to come but we’ve been pleased with progress. I had some trouble on my last runs; I needed to pit early for new tyres after one of the fronts got a flat spot and then I ended my double stint early because I felt some problems with the power steering. The Signatech-Nissan guys worked very quickly to replace the power steering canister and get Lucas back out on track in just eight minutes, retaining our place in the top ten. Let’s see what the next phase of the race holds for us.”
