LE MANS 24 HOURS UPDATE: FRANCK MAILLEUX CONTINUES LE MANS RECOVERY WITH SECOND RUN
Le Mans, 01:00
Franck Mailleux has completed his second run of the 24 Hours of Le Mans as he helps Signatech-Nissan’s continue its recovery after a puncture dropped them down the field on lap 10 of the race.
Franck had already made his way back up through the pack at the end of his first triple stint to position the team back on the cusp of the top 20 overall, but solid runs from his team-mates Lucas Ordonez and Soheil Ayari cemented the team’s comeback.
As Franck took over from Ayari for his next runs, the team were firmly in the top 20, but unfortunately another spectacular crash for one of the LMP1 cars warranted the deployment of the safety car for a second lengthy period. Franck performed diligently and with strong focus under the SC to ensure the team maintained its forward progress as the race entered the ninth hour.
As Lucas Ordonez takes over once again after a very professional drive by Franck, the team finds itself 15th overall with renewed optimism in its aim for an LMP2 podium by tomorrow afternoon.
Franck Mailleux: “We have been able to continue our positive fight back after the early puncture and I have been generally pleased with the car and they way we have adapted our strategy in light of on-track incidents. Naturally, it is not nice to see serious accidents on track during any race but I hope everyone involved is doing ok. The deployment of the safety car this evening meant that I had to keep focussed and not make any mistakes. It is never easy to stay for so long under a safety car but we have had two long periods today which have had a big influence on the race. I hope that the night-time running is a bit more trouble-free and that by the morning we are in a strong position to challenge for the podium that we wanted to achieve this weekend.”
