LE MANS 24 HOURS UPDATE: POWER STEERING PROBLEMS KEEP PIERRE RAGUES AND OAK RACING FROM MAKING HEADWAY IN LE MANS Photo NewsLe Mans, 00:00

Pierre Ragues and the OAK Racing team have endured a torrid time as the 24 Hours of Le Mans has entered the evening stage after power steering problems have kept the team in the garage for most of the early evening running.

After Pierre’s earlier double stint that saw the OAK-Pescarolo penetrate the overall top ten from eleventh on the grid, Pierre’s team-mate Guillaume Moreau took over as the power steering trouble started.

Initially, Guillaume tried to drive around the problem but it soon became apparent that extensive work would be required to ensure the team got back on track with the car in decent shape to compete. Guillaume was sidelined in the garage for over 50 laps as the OAK Racing mechanics worked tirelessly on finding a cure for the problem.

Unfortunately not long after the problem was seemingly resolved and Guillaume started to make progress from the back of the field, there was another frightening crash which brought out the safety car for nearly an hour. Like the incident earlier in the race, it seems that the driver was thankfully uninjured, although the team decided to bring the OAK-Pescarolo into the pits rather than spend time behind the safety car given the lap deficit the team had already suffered with the power steering trouble.

Pierre Ragues:
“It’s not exactly been the race that we expected with the power steering problem hitting us hard. We lost a huge amount of time in the pits as the team worked hard to fix the problem. The determination of this team is amazing and the fact they got the car back out shows just how dedicated we all are to competing at the highest level. We have seen two big accidents today and I hope everyone involved is fine. There was no point for us to stay behind the safety car for such a long period of time when we had already lost so many laps, so as a team we decided to bring the car in. Guillaume has done well to battle through the problems and I know Tiago is desperate to get some laps in, but I hope we can have a trouble-free night and that I can get back on track too in a few hours.”
