OAK RACING AND PIERRE RAGUES AIM FOR TOP PETROL CAR STATUS IN LE MANS
Pierre Ragues and the OAK Racing team will line up in 11th place for the start of this year’s Le Mans 24 Hours race which gets underway on Saturday afternoon, as the team aims to be the top petrol powered car in this year’s event.
Pierre has had a generally trouble-free start to his fifth participation in the legendary Le Mans endurance race and is satisfied with the performance of his OAK-Pescarolo car in race trim. The qualifying time was set, as planned, by Guillaume Moreau in the first of Thursday’s two qualifying practice sessions, with a best time of 3m34.933s.
Pierre, alongside Guillaume and Tiago Monteiro, worked on general race preparatory work, including tyre evaluation with Dunlop, aero assessment and a look at fuel consumption in preparation for the weekend’s demanding 24 hours race. Pierre was unfortunately unable to participate in Thursday evening’s final session after a problem with the lights on the OAK-Pescarolo ended the team’s programme earlier than planned.
A final warm-up session is planned for Saturday morning in order to make final adjustments for the start of the race on Saturday afternoon, but from 11th on the grid, Pierre and the team will be aiming to make headway and establish themselves as best of the petrol cars over the course of the 24 hour event.
Pierre Ragues said: “It has been a pretty straight-forward day for us after a solid opening day of practice and qualifying yesterday, even if our running was cut short by a problem with the lights in the final qualifying session. It was always planned that Guillaume would set the qualifying laps for us today and he did a great job in the first session. We were unfortunate to just miss out on the top ten but our overall target is to fight to be the leading petrol car and we hope to do that by the end of the 24 hours. All of my supporters have been a great boost to me this week, including my guests from Group Auto Union. We have no on track action tomorrow but I am determined to produce my best performance on Saturday and Sunday and to reward them and the OAK Racing team with a result we can be proud of.”
