MEASURED START TO LE MANS 24 HOURS FOR FRANCK MAILLEUX Photo NewsFranck Mailleux and the Signatech-Nissan team have made a trouble-free and measured start to their Le Mans 24 Hours, completing their aim of initial set-up work and completing the three laps required as part of the qualifying procedure for the legendary Le Mans event.

Together with team-mates Lucas Ordonez and Soheil Ayari, Franck carried out a range of set-up and aerodynamic work on the Signatech-Nissan Oreca 03 in today’s first practice session, as well as tyre assessment with Dunlop, completing 49 laps en route to third fastest in the LMP2 class. A best lap time of 3m43.397 was good enough for 17th overall in the highly competitive field of cars.

The first qualifying session of the week, a two-hour session in night-time conditions, gave drivers the first attempt to set banker laps in case weather conditions deteriorate tomorrow. Franck managed to complete his mandatory three laps during the session but encountered traffic on his best run. Nonetheless, the Signatech-Nissan team ended the first qualifying session in good shape with a best lap of 3m43.124s, set by Franck, and second place in LMP2 ahead of tomorrow’s two additional qualifying sessions.

Franck Mailleux said: “Today was all about a deliberately low-key start to our track preparations. Our objective was to work on the set-up of the Signatech-Nissan Oreca 03 as we prepare the car for the qualifying sessions and the race. With two qualifying sessions tomorrow, we still have time to continue our set-up work and on further evaluation of the Dunlop tyres, but tonight we wanted to get a few safe laps in the bank in case we have rain tomorrow. Without chasing a lap time, I was able to set the second best time in LMP2, which is encouraging. It’s great to be here with the team and our partners for what will be a fantastic event. I look forward to getting back in the cockpit tomorrow.”
