FRANCK MAILLEUX MAKES SUCCESSFUL DEBUT WITH GOLF24 Photo News

Franck made his debut at the wheel of the all-new Volkswagen Golf24 at the weekend as the team accelerated its preparations for the Nürburgring 24 Hour race.
Franck joined drivers Peter Terting and Fredrik Ekblom in the second round of the VLN Endurance Championship, finishing in the top 20 of a high-calibre field of more than 200 vehicles – in spite of a puncture which cost them a lot of time.
Volkswagen Motorsport has already confirmed that Franck will join Formula 1 legends Johnny Herbert and Mark Blundell as part of the German manufacturers assault on the gruelling 24 Hour race around the Nürburgring-Nordschleife track in late June.

This year’s event will be the first time that Volkswagen has competed with a works prepared Golf since 2007, so it is a real honour for Franck to be part of the team.

Volkswagen Motorsport continued its testing programme with the 440bhp Golf24 on the Nordschleife on Monday, as it builds up to the big event in six weeks time.

Franck said: “It has been a pleasure and an honour to join the Volkswagen Motorsport team once again. The VLN endurance event at the weekend gave us a great opportunity to explore fully the new Golf24 in race conditions and in spite of the puncture we were still able to claim a top 20 placement. Considering the strength of the field with over 200 vehicles and for our first race with the car, that was a promising result. The team will now continue preparations and testing as the Nürburging 24 Hour race approaches, something I am looking forward to. For now, though, my immediate focus is on this weekend’s ILMC race at Spa.”
