FRANCK MAILLEUX CONTINUES GOLF24 PREPARATIONS FOR NURBURGRING 24 HOURS Photo News Franck Mailleux is building up to an extremely busy June with the 24 Hours of Le Mans race set to take centre stage on the motorsport calendar in the middle of the month, followed by Franck’s participation with Volkswagen Motorsport in the 24 Hours of Nürburgring at the end of June.

Franck’s adaptation to the all new Volkswagen Golf24 continued last weekend with a second race participation with the team and car in the third round of the VLN Endurance Championship at the legendary German race track.

Following a successful debut race weekend just a few weeks ago, Franck was invited by Volkswagen to join Thomas Mutsch and Fredrik Ekblom for this second important run at the wheel of the 440bhp four-wheel drive vehicle.

The team enjoyed another successful six hour race with the Golf24, finishing sixth place overall in a strong field of competitors. The ten leading contenders had one lap deducted due to a gross violation of the yellow flag rule.

This year’s Nürburgring 24 Hours will be the first time that Volkswagen Motorsport has competed with a works prepared Golf since 2007. Franck will be joining F1 legends Johnny Herbert and Mark Blundell as part of the German manufacturer’s line-up.

Franck said: “I was delighted to be asked by Volkswagen Motorsport to once again help put the new Golf24 through its paces in a racing environment. It is a pleasure to be helping the team prepare this magnificent car in preparation for our participation in the 24 Hours of Nürburgring at the end of next month. I have been impressed with what I have seen so far and starting to explore the car’s potential. The race itself went well and we benefitted from some other cars penalties to finish sixth overall. The result itself was not as important as the progress we made with the car, which is heading in a positive direction. I can’t wait for the main event, but I have the small matter of the Le Mans 24 Hours first!”
