MISSION ACCOMPLISHED FOR PIERRE RAGUES WITH R5 WIN AT RALLYE DE LA CÔTE FLEURIE Photo News
It was a case of job well done for Pierre Ragues on Saturday as he achieved his pre-rally goal of winning the R5 class in Rallye de la Côte Fleurie, part of the highly respected Coupe de France des Rallyes.

Pierre finished the popular rally, a home event for the French ace, in second overall but only behind a WRC specification car. He underscored his performance with several confident stage runs, including a stage win in SS8, the penultimate run of the event from Quetteville to Genneville.

Pierre was quickly back at ease behind the wheel of the Skoda Fabia R5 with his co-driver Julien Pesenti, challenging the front-runners in the 47th running of the classic rally.

In a repeat of his 2016 performance, Pierre stormed to the R5 win to get his 2017 season off to a flying start. The nine-stage event offered Pierre the chance to get reacquainted with rallying as he prepares for another season juggling both rally and endurance challenges.

In a fitting addition to this weekend’s rally, Pierre’s father Marcel was on driving duties in the zero car – making it a Ragues family affair!

Pierre commented: “We have enjoyed two pretty perfect days at Rallye de la Côte Fleurie, meeting our pre-event expectations and ambitions of taking the R5 win. The Skoda Fabia performed excellently, as did the Michelin tyres, and we were able to really get the best out of the technical package and out of ourselves as a crew. Against WRC machinery, it’s never going to be straightforward so I am pleased to have shown my rally credentials against some very credible opposition. Winning R5 and finishing second overall is a great result – but I was extra pleased to take a stage win on the penultimate run. That was a fantastic feeling! Thanks, as ever, to Sparco, Yacco, Top Garage and GroupAuto for their support, as well as Ellip6 who helped with my pre-event preparations. It’s a wonderful start to the season and I look forward to sharing my full 2017 plans very soon. For now, we will savour this result.”
