PIERRE RAGUES REFLECTS ON COMPETITIVE MULTI-SERIES 2014 CAMPAIGN
Pierre Ragues has enjoyed one of the busiest, most versatile seasons in his impressive career to date in 2014. The Frenchman has successfully juggled multiple driving seats this season dipping his toe with success in the rallying world, as well as continuing to shine in endurance races.
His most recent participation in the European Le Mans Series with NewBlood by Morand Racing delivered a return to race winning ways with a sublime victory at Paul Ricard, scene of his 2013 ELMS title celebrations, and a podium at Estoril last week, which helped the team secure third place in the championship. The results underscored Pierre’s credentials and reputation as one of the most trusted pairs of hands in endurance racing.
Pierre, it’s been a busy year for you – were you pleased with your personal results?
It’s been an enjoyable year for me, and has really challenged me as a driver, which has been rewarding. I have had the opportunity to compete in endurance, including Le Mans, as well as a step into the competitive rally world with some podium successes. I feel that I have pushed myself hard this year and I am a more accomplished driver as a result.”
You certainly seemed strong in the recent ELMS races at Paul Ricard and Estoril…
Yes, those two races were definitely some of the best performances I have given this season. I was very comfortable in the NewBlood by Morand Racing team and the car was competitive. I personally had two strong performances and it was amazing to help the team win at Paul Ricard and to finish second at Estoril – half a minute from the winners. Together, we improved our overall position in the championship and ended up on the ‘podium’ for the season, which was a great achievement. I would like to thank Benoit Morand for this opportunity but also congratulate him for winning the Man of the Year award in ELMS.
How have you managed to jump from one cockpit to the other this year?
It has been surprisingly straight forward really, and as I mentioned earlier, I think it has been a positive learning curve for me this year. Rallying has been exciting and I was pleased to score some podiums in regional events earlier in the year. I have also worked with three endurance teams this season – including Signatech-Alpine who I won the 2013 ELMS title with, Larbre Competition and NewBlood by Morand Racing. I have some great support this year, from Alpine to my personal backers Group Auto, Sparco and leading simulator company Ellip6.
What next for you..?
I am working closely with my management team to see what options are available to me for the rest of this year and into 2015. I think I have shown myself to be very versatile this season and capable of turning my hand to anything. I have a lot more to give so I am hopeful we have some good opportunities in the future.
