STRONG EIGHTH LE MANS FOR PIERRE RAGUES AS LARBRE COMPETITION CLAIM TOP 15 FINISH Photo News
French endurance star Pierre Ragues has brought his eighth Le Mans participation to a fantastic finish by helping the Larbre Competition team to move into 14th overall after 24 hours of racing and over 325 laps of the gruelling Circuit de la Sarthe. The result was ninth in the highly competitive LMP2 class.

For Larbre Competition, the result marks a successful end to its first Le Mans as a Prototype entrant, with the Morgan Judd LMP2 car continuing to improve throughout the week of Le Mans action.

Pierre has driven one of the strongest races of his career over the past 24 hours with competitive stints, faultless runs and a largely trouble-free week. The Frenchman got the race underway on Saturday adopting a cautious approach to the frantic opening laps, a strategy that paid dividends as he began to make up places.

He finished his opening double stint before a Safety Car period caused a lengthy delay to the race. His team-mates Ricky Taylor and Keiko Ihara also got the maximum performance out of the Morgan Judd LMP2 in their stints before Ragues took over once again for a triple stint in the late evening. That was cut short due to another safety car at 21.45 but the team was already making up positions.

Unfortunately, during the late evening, Ricky Taylor experienced a puncture which caused damage to the Morgan Judd LMP2 that required a lengthy stop in the pits. When Ragues returned to the cockpit in the early hours of Sunday morning for a quadruple stint, he was back down the order. Pierre was able to really put his Le Mans experience into good practice as he helped move the team back into top 25.

His team-mates continued from where he left off during the night time before Ragues returned to the cockpit of the #50 at 06.40 for a triple stint. He handed over to Ricky Taylor at 09.00 from where the team continued to make up ground, also with Keiko Ihara enjoying another positive run. Ragues had his final stint in the late morning and was on fine form to help move into a top 15 position overall, which Ricky Taylor improved to 14th by the chequered flag.

Pierre commented “All in all, it has been another fantastic Le Mans and it has been a privilege to join Larbre Competition, Ricky and Keiko for this great adventure. LMP2 is as competitive as I have ever known it, so we have had to fight against some sensational competitors. We have had to be at the top of our game and I think this has been one of my strongest, but most demanding, Le Mans races ever. We have had to deal with the usual unexpected issues, including the safety cars, the slow zones, and a puncture, but we have faced these really well together as a team and bounced back. We were as low as 31st at one point, so to finish in the top 15 and top ten of LMP2 is a good result. I’d like to thank Larbre, Ricky and Keiko for such brilliant team-work, and to my backers Group Auto for their support. Finally, well done to everyone at Alpine for their podium result today.”
