PIERRE RAGUES AIMS TO CONTINUE ELMS PODIUM RUN AT HUNGARORING
French endurance star Pierre Ragues will be hoping to improve on his third place in the European Le Mans Series standings next weekend as the championship resumes for the penultimate round of the season, the 3 Hours of Hungaroring.
As the traditional summer break draws to a close, teams and drivers will be hoping for a smooth return to track action at one of the toughest circuits for overtaking, the narrow 4.381km Hungaroring, which is situated just 20km from the Hungarian capital Budapest.
Pierre finds himself in third place in the drivers’ standings together with his 2013 team-mate Nelson Panciatici with the Signatech-Alpine team keeping steady in the runner-up position on the teams’ classification.
Pierre and Signatech are no strangers to the Hungaroring, having competed together at the circuit in the 2010 Le Mans Series championship, in which they qualified fifth in LMP1. Now representing the legendary Alpine brand in LMP2 with Michelin tyres, Pierre will be hoping to continue the run of strong results this season that has seen the team finish fourth at Silverstone and second at both Imola and Red Bull Ring in Austria.
A battle for the LMP2 victory in Hungary next weekend would certainly boost their already impressive championship positions heading into the season finale at Paul Ricard later in the month, and be a nice reward also for Pierre’s personal sponsors Group Auto.
Although Pierre has had time to rest after a busy start to the 2013 season, he has still made time to keep up with his training regime and to participate in some karting, which will undoubtedly keep his race craft well honed.
Pierre Ragues commented: “I am thrilled to be returning to action at the Hungaroring, a track that I know reasonably well and which I hope will suit the performance of our Signatech-Alpine A450. It has been a good summer break, catching up with family and friends, but also one which I have also spent keeping in shape and competing in some kart races to keep up mentally race-ready. We are in a good position in the championship, second in the teams and equal third in the drivers, and based on our results in the three previous ELMS rounds we should be hopeful of competing for the podium. Ideally, we need to convert our second place results from Imola and Austria into a win but we know that the competition will be tough. We have 26 cars taking part next weekend, including nine LMP2s, so we need to focus on getting qualifying right. There are not many passing points in Hungary because it is a short lap and narrow, so traffic will be an issue. It’s the penultimate race and we have just Paul Ricard left to run so I am aiming for a trouble-free September of racing and to finish as high up the championship as we can, for myself, for Signatech-Alpine and for my partners, Group Auto.”
