PIERRE CAMPANA IMPRESSES AT BETTEGA MEMORIAL DURING BOLOGNA MOTOR SHOW Photo NewsRally sensation of the year, Pierre Campana, has made a starring performance at this year’s Bologna Motor Show, joining a host of rally stars and motorsport icons as part of the traditional Bettega Memorial which has taken place this weekend.

Pierre, with backing from his Italian supporters Perin and Quotidia, drove a Michelin-equipped Peugeot 207 S2000 car from Munaretto during the famous Bettega memorial event, his first time taking part, with exhilarating rallying on Saturday and Sunday.

In dry conditions on a gravel/asphalt track in front of a cheering crowd, Pierre gave his all during both days of the event, on each occasion making his way to the quarter final stages with a nail-bitingly close finale against competitors who have participated in the event on numerous occasions. Even as one of the underdogs, Pierre put in positive performances and impressed his peers with a determined display.

Pierre was on strong form; in the quarter final, Pierre and his challenger took one win each in the two heats but Pierre was knocked out by just three-tenths-of-a-second after times for the two heats were combined. Sunday’s quarter final knockout was even closer as Pierre missed out on the semi-final by a mere two-hundredths-of-a-second. It was so close that the duo crossed the line at the same time and had to wait for official adjudication of the times.

Pierre said: “What an honour and a privilege it has been to join the Bettega Memorial event at the Bologna Motor Show and to take part in the Karcher Trofeo S2000. It was my first time joining this event and taking part in such a head-to-head knockout competition and I enjoyed every minute of it. It was fantastic to reach the quarter-finals on Saturday and Sunday and it has been a great experience against seasoned opponents. Most WRC power stages are similar to this format and show, so it has been a useful and fun experience for me; I’d love to do it again in the future. Thanks to Perin and Quotidia for their support, to Michelin for their fantastic tyres, and to Munaretto for the S2000 Peugeot 207 which is always a pleasure to drive. I now look forward to the festive period to reflect on a fantastic year and look forward to a stronger and even more competitive year in 2012.”
