FRANCK MAILLEUX PUTS CHAMPIONS SIGNATECH-NISSAN ON POLE IN CHINA
Franck Mailleux has claimed a dominant pole position for tomorrow’s 6 Hours of Zhuhai leading the LMP2 charge with a 2.3 second advantage over the other LMP2 entry for this weekend’s Chinese event. Franck’s best lap of 1m27.929s was ninth quickest overall.
Signatech-Nissan has already secured the Intercontinental Le Mans Cup title following the last race at Road Atlanta, but the team will be confident in ending the season on a high by taking victory around Zhuhai on Sunday.
It has been a positive week so far for Franck Mailleux with reliable and competitive performances in the free practice sessions allowing the team to stamp its authority over the LMP2 class. Starting from ninth on the grid for tomorrow’s race, the team will be hoping for a trouble-free six hour race with LMP2 victory a realistic focus.
Franck Mailleux said: “It is a good feeling to be starting the final ILMC race of the season from pole position. We have had a good weekend so far; the Signatech-Nissan Oreca 03 has performed competitively and I have a good feeling driving around the Zhuhai circuit. It is my first time driving here but I think I have learned the track quickly and today’s pole position proves that. We are over two seconds ahead of the other LMP2 car taking part this weekend, so we have high hopes for tomorrow’s race and will do all we can to end the season with victory. We have won the championship but it would be nice to add a race win to all the other positive results from this season. That’s certainly what we will be aiming for!”
