PIERRE RAGUES CONCLUDES ENJOYABLE KARTING WEEKEND IN ESSAY Photo NewsPierre Ragues has continued to use his regular participation in the GPO Karting championship as a good platform to prepare for his endurance racing season with another enjoyable race weekend, this time at Essay.

Over the two day event, Pierre was able to compete against some of the most competitive karting drivers around and to maintain his race craft ahead of the Intercontinental Le Mans Cup finale at Zhuhai in China next week.

On the first of two days, Pierre was able to set the second fastest time in practice before translating that into a solid fifth as a result of cooler temperatures for the session. In the pre-final, Pierre didn’t get the best of starts and was sixth but still demonstrating a good performance.

In Saturday’s final, he had a problem right from the warm-up with a slipping clutch, so he prepared for a tough race. After dropping some places, he did well to reclaim fourth but the problem worsened in the closing stages which saw him slip back to fifth by the chequered flag.

On Sunday, with close and competitive times, Pierre set the sixth best time for the pre-final but quickly made progress to chase the top three. With a lot of tyre wear, Pierre chased down his opponents but was pushed back to fourth. However, in the closing moments of the race, he kept pushing hard to claim back his third place and his determination delivered the reward he wanted!

Pierre said:
“Another enjoyable weekend in the GPO karting championship, this time at Essay, with some positive results generally speaking. I had a solid Saturday battling a few technical niggles to claim a top five finish. Sunday was even better, though, with a third place in the final event after a close battle for position and some very competitive performances. These events are always a pleasure for me to take part in and really keep my race craft in peak form, which is especially important before the ILMC race with the season finale in China next week.”
