RALLY STAR PIERRE CAMPANA OUTCLASSES THE FIELD TO TAKE IMPRESSIVE CEVENNES VICTORY Photo NewsRally star Pierre Campana has today claimed a sensational victory in Rallye Cevennes after a supreme masterclass of rallying which saw the Corsican take eight stage wins out of a possible 13 in his Drive-Pro run MINI John Cooper Works WRC car.

Campana was able to overturn the significant time deficit that was picked up as a result of yesterday’s driveshaft problems, thanks to some truly astonishing opening stages this morning. He won SS10 Le Vigas-Col du Minier by some nine seconds to reduce his gap to the leader yet again to just 37 seconds overall. He set the quickest time in SS11, the 37km Valleraugue – ND de la Rouvière stage, by 12 seconds and inherited the overall lead after problems for the leader during that stage.

From then on, Pierre adopted a safe and correctly cautious driving style to ensure his three minute buffer at the head of the field was not threatened and to achieve what he needed to guarantee a wonderful win at Cevennes.

Campana has been in sublime form from the opening stage on Thursday and it was only a result of technical problems in SS4 and SS5 on Friday that Pierre wasn’t in command of the classification for the duration of the rally.

A truly WRC class performance with firm focus and professional commitment with his co-driver Sabrina de Castelli enabled Pierre to take a second consecutive French Rally Championship win following his victory in Mont Blanc-Morzine. The Corsican was impressive in a complete range of stages, in a variety of weather conditions and in the face of adversity to claim a memorable win which adds further to his enviable 2011 portfolio of results.

A WRC star-in-the-making, Campana is now looking ahead to a third French championship event at Rally du Var, again with Drive-Pro and with the MINI, at the end of November to bring this incredible season to a fanfare end and hoping for even greater prospects in 2012.

Pierre Campana said:
“I am thrilled to have taken the victory at Cevennes today after things took a turn for the worse with the driveshaft problems yesterday. I have felt comfortable and competitive in the MINI John Cooper Works WRC from the very first stage and the fact we have taken 8 stage wins has been a great achievement. We would surely have done even better without the technical problems on Friday, but I am still overjoyed with this great result and I have to thank Sabrina and Drive-Pro for everything this weekend. We were over one minute down after SS5 yesterday but we had two very strong stages this morning which reduced the gap massively, and then we regained our rightful lead from the end of SS11. This is our second French Rally Championship in a row after Mont Blanc, and third in total with the MINI, so I hope we can push for more at Rally du Var next month.”
