PIERRE RAGUES JOINS RACECAR EURO-SERIES AT LE MANS
Just back from his stateside trip to the Petit Le Mans race at Road Atlanta, Pierre Ragues returned to French racing action last weekend with a participation in the Le Mans round of the Racecar Euro-Series.
Joining the OverDrive team, Pierre was placed in the ELITE group of drivers, battling for position driving NASCAR-style stock car racers designed specifically to compete on European circuits. Some brake problems in the practice sessions prevented important car set-up work in the opening practice, but Pierre’s role was to provide support to his team-mate who was in contention for the championship.
Pierre set the 14th quickest time in qualifying, having set his time on used tyres from the last meeting in order to preserve the set of new tyres for his team-mate. Unfortunately, Pierre had an incident in the race which caused sufficient damage to end his race prematurely. Sunday’s endurance event of 45 minutes started with Pierre in 23rd place but making up ground to 8th place after 13 laps. Pierre’s mission was once again to help his team-mate’s championship attempt.
Pierre said: “I had a great time taking part in the Racecar Euro-Series event at Le Mans last weekend. They are completely different cars to what I am used to in LMP1, obviously, but it is very helpful for me to keep my all-round driving skills fresh. My main aim over the weekend was to help my team-mate in his championship bid, which I did right from the qualifying session. I had to use old tyres to set my qualifying time to allow him to have the new tyres, so to finish 14th with all the other Elite drivers setting their times on new tyres wasn’t too bad. The first race was not good after the car sustained damage that forced me to retire. The endurance race was better and I was able to make up 15 places in the first 13 laps but again the mission was to help my team-mate in his title bid, so it was very much a team event. This is totally different to ILMC but a huge amount of fun!”
