RALLYE DE FRANCE-ALSACE PRESS CONFERENCE – PIERRE CAMPANA SET TO SHINE
Nicolas Deschaux, President of the French Motorsports Federation (FFSA), has today used the opportunity of the start of Rally de France – Alsace to present Pierre Campana and Sabrina de Castelli to the French and International media corps.
Designated with the #55, the MINI John Cooper Works WRC car of Pierre Campana will start tomorrow morning, Friday 30 September, in the wake of Sébastien Loeb and Sébastien Ogier, themselves former members of the FFSA Rally Team France at the beginning of their rally careers.
Meeting in the Platinum Paddock Club, the new structure dedicated to partners and VIPs at this Rallye de France – Alsace, numerous journalists and guests of the FFSA have had the opportunity to hear from Pierre Campana directly.
Born on 1 May 1985, a native of Corte in Corsica, Pierre has been selected by the FFSA for “his sporting profile and all-round performance”, according to Nicolas Deschaux. “We have taken particular note of his fourth place overall at the Tour de Corse.
Named as part of FFSA Rally Team France last July, Pierre was entrusted with a MINI John Cooper Works WRC car, a contemporary chassis prepared by Team Drive-Pro, the official dealer for Prodrive in France. Pierre triumphed in the Richard Burns Memorial with the MINI before beginning his WRC campaign in Rallye Germany. In that event, his first ever WRC experience, he ranked 18th overall and was able to gather valuable information on his team, car and the new sporting environment. A few weeks later, the young Corsican took to Mont Blanc. Facing competitors in the French Rally Championship, Pierre was on impressive form, taking MINI’s first ever victory in the Hexagon. Rally de France – Alsace, the event that all motorsport enthusiasts dream of experiencing first-hand, is an extremely important event for Pierre Campana.
His second participation in the tough environment of the World Rally Championship, is much anticipated and will be particularly under the scrutiny of observers in Strasbourg, not only the media but also those responsible for and involved in WRC. “Over the last few months, Pierre has acquired the necessary experience and capability to assert his talent this weekend in Alsace! As Sébastien Ogier in 2009, and many other drivers before him, we hope that the opportunity provided by the FFSA, Pro-Drive, Quadra Sports and our partners will allow Pierre to be noticed, especially by the professionals who make up the World Rally Championship. Putting young talent in the best position to succeed is the primary objective of the Federation as part of its Rally Team France program, "said the President of the FFSA.
Pierre Campana, FFSA Rally Team France Driver 2011 "It's a great honour for me to be starting Rally de France-Alsace under the colours of the FFSA Rally Team France! I am more confident and more relaxed than I was in Germany where I had to learn everything. This time around, I think that all the elements are in place for me to show my competitiveness at the highest level of competition in Rally!"
