PIERRE RAGUES BRIDGES SUMMER GAP WITH TWO-DAY TEST AT BUGATTI CIRCUIT
French endurance racer Pierre Ragues completed a two-day test at the Bugatti Circuit in Le Mans on Tuesday as the OAK Racing team continues to hone the performance of its OAK-Pescarolo LMP1 chassis after a difficult Intercontinental Le Mans Cup campaign so far this season.
Reliability issues have prevented the team from completing a race finish so far in 2011 but they accumulated a total of 870 kilometres of running over the two days with Pierre and team-mate Guillaume Moreau sharing driving duties. Their OAK Racing colleague Matthieu Lahaye, who was injured in a terrible qualifying crash during the Spa 6 Hours weekend, joined the OAK Racing team for the test but is hoping to make his return to the cockpit at the team’s next scheduled test at the end August.
Work was centred on general car set-up, traction control work, as well as adjusting the OAK-Pescarolo to meet new ride-height regulations that are set to come into effect at the Silverstone race that takes place in September. The team also carried out some tyre temperature testing with Dunlop. Rain curtailed running on Tuesday afternoon, but the substantial mileage accrued up to that point has given the team plenty of data to study before it returns to testing in a few weeks time.
Pierre Ragues said: “It was good to be back behind the wheel of the OAK-Pescarolo on Monday and Tuesday, as we completed the first of our two scheduled summer tests. We are hoping to use these tests to get the car into the best possible shape for the next round of the ILMC championship at Silverstone in September. It is no secret that we have not had a lot of luck with reliability so far this season but we are working hard to solve this for the final races of the season. The test was quite good and we got some good mileage around the shorter Bugatti circuit, which will give the team lots to work on before the next test. We worked on general set-up, but also focussed specifically on traction control and ride height in preparation for Silverstone, as well as tyre temperature testing. A bit of rain at the end of the final day did not disrupt us significantly and we look forward to continuing the positive preparation for the next race when we test again in late August.”
