FRANCK MAILLEUX AND SIGNATECH NISSAN ON LMP2 PACE IN IMOLA AND AIM TO EXTEND ILMC LEAD
Franck Mailleux and the Signatech-Nissan team will be hoping to make their way through the field during tomorrow’s 6 Hours of Imola race after qualifying fourth in LMP2 this afternoon, and extending their LMP2 lead of the Intercontinental Le Mans Cup.
With both Le Mans Series and Intercontinental Le Mans Cup participating this weekend, the LMP2 field is ultra competitive with tenths-of-a-second making a significant difference in position. The Signatech-Nissan is a proven podium contender this season, so Franck will be pushing hard to continue where they left off in Le Mans just a few weeks ago.
Although a famous racing venue, the new-look Imola circuit is new for almost all drivers, including Franck, so track time in practice has been important. Unfortunately, numerous red flags and heavy rain on Friday limited running and made preparations more complicated for most teams.
Overnight rain left the track damp this morning and it took a few laps before drivers could use slick tyres, but Franck was able to get a handful of laps completed in the dry to add to the few he completed on Friday. The team was on the pace just 0.3s from the quickest LMP2 car, which gives the team encouragement for the race tomorrow.
Franck Mailleux said: “It has not been a straight-forward weekend with the wet weather conditions but I feel that we have found our way during the course of today and are on the LMP2 pace. The LMP2 field is very competitive this weekend so it will be a big battle tomorrow, although I am sure we will find ourselves in the hunt for a class podium again. I have had enough laps in the Signatech-Nissan car over yesterday and today to feel confident and I quite like this new Imola layout, so it will be an interesting and fun race, I’m sure. Whatever happens, we will do everything we can to keep our lead in the ILMC.”
