PIERRE RAGUES LOOKING FORWARD TO OFFICIAL LE MANS TESTING
French driver Pierre Ragues is returning to the cockpit of his OAK-Pescarolo LMP1 racer this weekend at an official one-day test session in preparation for June’s legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans.
The 24 Hours of Le Mans Test Day takes place six weeks before the main event, giving teams and competitors the important opportunity to evaluate set-up of their cars way in advance of the prestigious race.
Pierre and the OAK Racing team will have be able to look in-depth at the set up the OAK-Pescarolo car alongside their competitors, working on every aspect of the car from chassis to engine and electronics to Dunlop tyres.
Le Mans holds additional meaning for Pierre this season since the OAK Racing team has recently started working out of a factory at the Le Mans Technoparc, making the Le Mans race a genuine home event for the entire team.
The 2011 24 Hours of Le Mans will be Pierre’s third consecutive participation in the LMP1 category and his fifth in total, having driven twice additionally in LMP2.
Pierre and the team are preparing for Sunday’s test on the back of an encouraging performance at the Sebring 12 Hour race last month in which the team were on course for a fourth place finish until technical gremlins forced them to retire just three hours from the end.
Pierre commented: “I am looking forward to getting back behind the wheel of the OAK-Pescarolo this weekend. Le Mans is unquestionably the highlight of the season; an important, emotional and exciting event for drivers and team members alike. The test will be a useful opportunity for us to see how the car performs around this legendary track and to see what improvements we need to make in the six weeks before the race itself. There are so many elements to evaluate to ensure that a car can be competitive and reliable over 24 hours so it is vital that we leave no stone unturned. We had a generally positive weekend in Sebring, although the end result was not what we expected, so this gives us a good base to work from.”
