PIERRE CAMPANA AIMS FOR ITALIAN GLORY WITH SUPER 2000
French rally star Pierre Campana is set to return to the scene of one of his finest performances from last season as he takes part in the Ronde del Grifo in Italy this weekend.
Campana made a spectacular debut in the Super 2000 competition last year, finishing top in the Super 2000 category and ending the rally secondoverall – an impressive achievement. This year, it is only natural that he wants to go one step further, but he is happy just to continue gaining valuable rally experience.
The contest, which is taking place in the Veneto region of Italy, sees competitors driving a solitary 13.5 kilometre asphalt stage, but repeating it a total of four times in a clover-leaf format. Not only is it a popular event for leading rally drivers, it is also a fantastic chance for Pierre to hone his craft in a competitive environment.
Pierre will once again be driving a Peugeot 207 run by the Munaretto team, basedjust 20km away, equipped with Michelin tyres. The car will also be adorned with the logos of Perin Generators and Quotidia, a solar equipment company, who are joining this rally as Pierre’s partners.
Pierre’s participation in this weekend’s event in a four-wheel drive vehicle follow his impressive two-wheel display at the Monte Carlo Rally in January. Having done so well in this rally in 2010, Pierre will have his sights set on the top prize, challenging a total of nine WRC cars who will also be taking part, alongside his long-term co-driver Sabrina de Castelli.
Pierre Campana said: “The Ronde del Grifo was very enjoyable event for me last year and one of the standout highlights of the season. It was my first time driving an S2000 car in competition and I adapted to it quickly. I was able to win the class last year and take second overall, without really going for results, so it is legitimate to aim one higher this year, even with tough competition. I have the fantastic support of the Munaretto team, who are local to this event, as well as Michelin tyres, so I have every faith in the performance of the car. I am also thankful to have some special partners in Perin Generators and Quotidia, who will also have logos on the car. I hope they can have as much fun out of the car as I am planning to have in it this weekend!”
