CAMPANA GEARS UP FOR ANOTHER STRONG RENAULT OUTING IN ITALY
Frenchman Pierre Campana will compete on the Rally di Como in northern Italy this weekend: the final round of the Italian Rally Championship and the penultimate round of Renault Clio R3 Italian Trophy.
Once more the young Corsican will drive a Renault Clio R3 run by the Italian Munaretto team, which he drove to class victory on the Rally d’Alpi Orientali in Italy this year and second in class on the world-famous Monte Carlo Rally earlier this year, the opening round of the European Clio Trophy. Pierre still stands a chance of winning the Italian Renault Clio series, so once more he will be aiming to go flat-out for victory.
Pierre, who is managed by Quadra Sports, will once more benefit from the loyal support of ground-breaking French simulator company Ellip6. The 25-year-old will run on tyres from Italian firm Pirelli, as he faces a highly competitive field of Italy’s top two-wheel drive experts.
This will be Pierre’s first attempt at the all-asphalt Rally di Como, which gets underway tomorrow. Teaming up once more with his regular co-driver Sabrina de Castelli, the 24-year-old is planning to display his mastery of variable asphalt conditions. Although warm weather is expected, there is the constant risk of some rainy intervals.
“While we still have a chance of winning the Italian title this year, it’s not a very big one so our only option is to go flat-out and try to win,” said Campana. “It’s never an easy task on an event that you do not know and we are sure to be up against several local experts. But I love a challenge and we’ve tended to do well even on events that are new to us. I’d like to thank Ellip6 for their support and Munaretto for preparing another excellent car: now we have to use it to the best of our abilities.”
Following the start in Como on Thursday 21 October the rally takes in nine special stages before the finish back in Como on Saturday 23 October, after 150 competitive kilometres.
