CAMPANA PREPARES FOR RALLY D'ALPI ORIENTALI Photo NewsFrenchman Pierre Campana will compete on Rally d'Alpi Orientali in northeast Italy this weekend, a round of the Italian Rally Championship and also a scoring event of the Italian Clio R3 Trophy.

Once more the young Corsican will drive a Renault Clio R3 run by the Italian Munaretto team, which he drove to category victory on Rallye Sanremo in Italy last September and took to second on the world-famous Monte Carlo Rally earlier this year: the opening round of the Clio R3 European Trophy.

Pierre's last outing was on Barum Czech Rally Zlin, a round of the European Clio series, just one week ago and now he heads to Italy to prepare for the domestic Clio event. While the European championship is his main focus, Pierre is also lying ninth in the Italian Clio Trophy, so he has everything to play for in his extremely hectic schedule.

Pierre, managed by Quadra Sports, will once more benefit from the loyal support of ground-breaking French simulator company Ellip6, which has been represented on his car since the start of the season. The 25-year-old, who is co-driven by Sabrina de Castelli, will run on tyres from Italian firm Pirelli as he faces a highly-competitive field of no fewer than 29 Renault Clios.

This will be Pierre's first attempt at the all-asphalt Rally d'Alpi Orientali, which consists of 14 stages split over three days of action around Udine: close to the Slovenian border.

"I don't really know what to expect from this event but I'm looking forward to it a lot," said Pierre. "Our last rally in the Czech Republic ended up with an off-road excursion on the final stage, so the Rally d'Alpi Orientali will be an important event for us to rebuild our confidence. I love rallying in Italy and I hear that these are very challenging stages, so I'm sure it's going to be a good weekend. After the very specific demands of the Barum Czech Rally Zlin, it's going to be nice to get back to slightly more familiar territory. I'm sure that we'll be able to carry out a lot of useful set-up work for Sanremo during the coming days."

Following a start ceremony and spectator superspecial stage in Udine on Thursday September 2 the rally route takes competitors over six stages on Friday totalling 67.88 competitive kilometres. The action concludes on Saturday with six more stages before the finish in Udine at 16.45, making a total competitive distance of 167.94 kilometres.
